Wingate's Band is one of the oldest and finest of thousands of brass bands in the United Kingdom which, over nearly two centuries, have collectively woven a golden thread in the rich tapestry of British cultural life. Now in its 143rd year, the Wingate's story has embraced 6 monarchs, 35 parliaments and 26 prime ministers, and is unbroken since the middle of Queen Victoria's age. It has survived two world wars and the horrors of the Pretoria Pit disaster in 1910, which took so many lives of local residents and members of the band.

With such a long and colourful history, it is no surprise that another significant milestone has been reached in 2015: we are celebrating 100 years of Wingate's Band recordings! Only three other brass bands have a longer recording pedigree and as we are immensely proud of our achievement, we felt it right that it should be celebrated appropriately. Our President, Mr David Kaye, tasked the Musical Director (Mr Paul Andrews) with selecting one piece of music from each decade of recorded music, which were compiled together. These pieces are complemented by two original compositions which were commissioned specially for the occasion, by Lucy Pankhurst and Adam Taylor.

There are 12 items on this souvenir CD, all listed below, along with their composer's name and the year in which each piece was first recorded by the band.
