Wingates Brass Band is one of the oldest and finest of thousands of brass bands in the United Kingdom which, over nearly two centuries, have collectively woven a golden thread in the rich tapestry of British cultural life. Now in its 143rd year, the Wingates' story has embraced 6 monarchs, 35 parliaments and 26 prime ministers, and is unbroken since the middle of Queen Victoria's age. It has survived two world wars and the horrors of the Pretoria Pit disaster in 1910, which took so many lives of local residents and members of the band.

With such a long and colourful history, it is no surprise that another significant milestone has been reached in 2015: we are celebrating 100 years of Wingates Band recordings! Only three other brass bands have a longer recording pedigree and as we are immensely proud of our achievement, we felt it right that it should be celebrated appropriately. In this publication, David Kaye (recently retired president of the band) has attempted to compile a comprehensive summary of all the main Wingates band recordings, from shellac to our most recent CD. He outlines the story of the recorded music of Wingates Band from 1915 to 2015, which has seen the band feature on over 200 recordings, issued by 40 record labels, with more than 600 different pieces of music captured for posterity. It is produced to accompany the CD of the same name which is also available from the shop.
